Balham Underground Station entrance is constructed from Portland stone with bronze fenestrations and enamel livery.
The station entrance appearance had been somewhat neglected and was showing signs of deterioration including stone defects, missing pointing and extensive moss and lichen growth.
Scope of works:
- Cleaning of enamel works
- Stone repairs and re-pointing
- Portland Stone cleaning (DOFF) including moss and lichen removal
CRL, as Principal Contractor, was appointed by London Underground Ltd to restore the station entrance. Due to the critical and sensitive nature of the stations, all works were carried out at night whilst taking consideration for the local residents to minimise noise and disruption.
