The Penguin Pool at London Zoo was built in 1934 and was designed by the Russian architect Berthold Lubetkin (1901-1990) and his partnership Tecton.

It is a landmark of early modern architecture in England. The structure had been allowed to fall into a state of disrepair. CRL was appointed to fully restore the structure to its former glory.

The works included:

      • Careful removal of numerous coatings of paint (JOSS)
      • Extensive repair of the concrete structure to match the original profile
      • Application of thin coat render to restore the original finish
      • Application of specialist coatings to provide compatability with the penguins and the structural requirements
