Structural Strengthening with Fibre Reinforced Polymers
Although carbon fibre has been around for a long time, it was only in the early 1990’s that it began to be used in the construction industry. Since then it has become an accepted material for the strengthening of structures of all types and composition.
The presentation, ‘Structural Strengthening with Fibre Reinforced Polymers’ will provide an overview of structural strengthening using fibre reinforced polymers (FRP) composite materials. It will briefly cover what FRP is and the different types available, why FRP strengthening is needed and where it can be used, discuss the design considerations, look at the installation and testing of the component materials as well as the finished product and examine some actual installations/case studies. The aim of the presentation is to provide sufficient information regarding FRP strengthening to enable the attendees to avoid basic errors when employing, specifying and/or applying such composites.
