CRL delivers critical refurbishment works on Chelmsley Wood Bridge (M42 southbound to M6 northbound link), tackling severe coating failure identified in a BD 87 survey. Operating in a live motorway environment, the team removed degraded aluminium metal spray (AMS), completed SA 2½ surface preparation, and applied a compliant Type 1(M) four-coat protective system.

The project included night-time operations under strict traffic management, MEWP access to complex skewed steelwork, and assessment of temporary support solutions for west abutment bearing repairs.

Using 3D modelling and Early Contractor Involvement (ECI), CRL ensured safe, efficient delivery within tight six-hour closures. Watch how CRL enhanced durability, mitigated corrosion, and extended the service life of this critical motorway structure.
