Building Strong Communities

CRL recognise the importance of supporting our surrounding communities.

As well as strengthening and repairing infrastructure, CRL wants to help build strong communities and leave a legacy in the areas we work and operate. In order to do this, we understand that it is important for us to create good relationships and communication channels with the communities we serve to appreciate what is important to them and enable us to meet their needs.

CRL encourages our employees to actively serve and contribute in the communities in which they live and work. Through our Community Projects Scheme, all CRL employees are entitled to three days paid leave to support community-based activities and charity projects that are important to them.

Examples of community projects that our Employees have been involved include numerous fundraising schemes, environment development projects, assistance with care and teaching involvement.

The company has helped to sponsor local sports clubs with links to the company where assistance has led to development of those clubs.

Shaping our Communities

As part of our new Social Value Strategy, CRL is constantly exploring new ways of working with and supporting our communities. One of our new initiatives is to partner each of our offices (and corresponding regions) with a local charity or community organisation chosen by our employees. Through this initiative, we plan to offer long-term and tailored support to our local communities.

As a company we look to enhance the surrounding community whether that be the use of waste spoil to create footpaths for the public or a Wendy house for the local hospital that we were repairing.

In addition, we support our local communities by providing education and employment opportunities. Whether that is by taking on staff locally wherever possible, engaging with schools, colleges and universities to help future generations enter the industry, or offering opportunities to disadvantaged and under-represented groups (see examples above).

Our engineers are encouraged to become STEM Ambassadors and get involved in visiting schools and colleges to encourage young people to join the construction industry. An example of this is our Bridge Building competition which we organise and run for students in Years 9-11 (see details at top of page).

Our Chairman Tony Rimoldi has acted as a mentor for London students, wining mentor of the year for City University.

"Just a quick one to say thank you very much for both the collective CRL donation and individual contributions. It’s really appreciated! Please pass on my thanks to the rest of the team at CRL."
