On M5 Oldbury Viaduct, the UK’s largest concrete repair scheme, working with our supply chain we trialed the use of remote controlled robotic hydro demolition units. This innovative construction technique improved safety for the workforce by reducing exposure to noise and dust and reduced the impact of these works on customers.
Hydro-Demolition
On M5 Oldbury Viaduct, recognised with Green Apple Award for Environmental Best Practice, we used hydro demolition to remove deteriorated concrete from the 3km-long viaduct. This vibration and dust free solution delivered safety and air quality benefits, and enabled us to capture, treat and discharge circa 300,000 litres of wastewater daily, with no impact on the watercourse beneath.
