CRL Supports Sustainable Merton

At CRL, delivering social value is more than a commitment, it’s an opportunity to connect with communities in a meaningful and lasting way. Last Friday, our team had the privilege of working with Sustainable Merton at the Mitcham Community Orchard & Gardens, where we spent the day crafting new wooden benches and tables to revitalise the outdoor shelter.

This collaborative project was a perfect example of skills-sharing, community spirit, and teamwork in action. Guided by our experienced professionals, including Nigel Roper, our Group SHEQ Advisor and supported by a team of enthusiastic CRL volunteers, we set out to make a tangible improvement to a well-loved local green space.

Nigel, who began his career in carpentry at 16 and has since become a Chartered Safety and Health Practitioner, led the team with both skill and passion. With decades of experience across construction, restoration, and health and safety, Nigel played a central role in ensuring the day was both productive and safe.

Adding a special touch to the day was Nigel’s father, affectionately known as Senior Roper, who also joined the team on site. A skilled carpenter in his own right, he not only assisted with the build but also charmed and guided both local volunteers and CRL staff with hands-on training in constructing the new benches, blending decades of wisdom with community engagement.

Sustainable Merton shared their appreciation on social media, writing:

“We were thrilled to welcome Concrete Repairs Limited UK to Mitcham Community Orchard & Gardens. Their team spent the day helping us build new tables and benches for our outdoor shelter. We’re incredibly grateful for their hands-on support and generous donation of materials. The new furniture has enhanced the orchard space, making it even more welcoming for our community events and volunteers.”

In a follow-up message, they added:

“It was such a lovely day and our volunteers really enjoyed it. The orchard and everyone who uses the space will benefit greatly from your contribution.”

We at CRL are proud of the craftsmanship and care our team brought to this project and equally grateful for the opportunity to support a valued partner like Sustainable Merton. The orchard now boasts upgraded furniture that will serve the community. This is a true testament to what can be achieved when skilled hands and shared values come together.

We look forward to building on this partnership and exploring more ways to contribute positively to our local communities.
